Gwinnett Offense Once Again Too Much for Bisons
April 27, 2023 - International League (IL)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA- The Buffalo Bisons fell to the Gwinnett Stripers 6-1 on Thursday night at Coolray Field.
Buffalo had offensive momentum early, after Otto Lopez opened the game with a leadoff walk. After Lopez advanced to second base, Spencer Horwitz stepped to the plate and delivered a two-out RBI single to put the Bisons up 1-0 before the Stripers could even get to the plate. Despite the early momentum, the Herd couldn't get the bats working on Thursday, registering only four hits for the second straight day.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Stripers would strike back after Joe Hudson brought Luke Waddell home with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 1-1. Gwinnett would take the lead in the bottom of the third, with Braden Shewmake bringing home Justin Dean with an RBI groundout to open a 2-1 advantage for the home team.
The two clubs would play a clean fourth inning before a Joe Dunand solo home run doubled the Gwinnett advantage to two, 3-1. With Buffalo unable to answer offensively, the lead would only continue to grow. Forrest Wall added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring Joshua Fuentes home and grow the lead to 4-1.
Gwinnett would add more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, after Joshua Fuentes scored Yolmer Sanchez with Gwinnett's second sacrifice fly of the game to make it a 5-1 Gwinnett lead. Joe Dunand collected his second RBI of the night after he hit an RBI single to bring Joe Hudson across the plate and put the game out of reach for the Herd, making the lead 6-1.
Despite a Rob Brantly single and a Tanner Morris walk to get two aboard in the top of the ninth, Buffalo was unable to mount a comeback and dropped their second straight to the Stripers.
Brantly was able to go 2-4 from the plate on Thursday, registering his first hits since April 21st against the Iowa Cubs, while also accounting for two of the four hits Buffalo earned against Gwinnett.
The Herd and the Stripers are scheduled to meet tomorrow at 7:05 in the fourth game of a six-game series between the two teams, the only one scheduled this season.
