San Diego Gulls News Release
LAS VEGAS â The San Diego Gulls conclude their first road trip of the season Tuesday night in Las Vegas as they take on the first-place Wranglers at the Orleans Arena.
The Gulls are coming off a hard-luck 2-1 loss in Bakersfield Saturday. San Diego jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, a lead that lasted all the way into the third. The Condors however scored back-to-back goals 2:02 apart early in the final frame to hand the Blue and Orange its first loss of the young season.
Rookie netminder David Burleigh, making his professional debut, stopped 26 shots in a losing effort. He got the nod in goal after Trevor Koenig was placed on the 7-day injured list with a sore groin. Koenig is expected to be activated and return in net tonight.
San Diego won its season opener Oct. 18 thanks to a 1-0 shutout by Koenig, who stopped all 27 Bakersfield shots. Mike Garrow scored the lone goal early in the third period.
The Wranglers, who have the early lead in the Pacific Division, are unbeaten in four of their five games thus far. Las Vegas is coming off two straight home wins over Bakersfield and Idaho.
Justin Kelly, Dave Cousineau, Mike McBain and Ryan Christie each tallied power-play goals Saturday, leading Vegas to a 4-1 win against the Steelheads on Saturday. The Wranglers also had four different goal scorers in their home opener Oct. 21 to knock off the Condors 4-2.
Greg Day leads the Wranglers with 11 points, tied for third in the ECHL. He's second in the league with eight assists and first with a +7. Goaltender Marc Magliarditi is a perfect 3-0 with a 2.00 goals against average.
This is the first meeting ever between the two new Pacific Division rivals. The two will play each other nine more times in the regular season.
