GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL will be playing the first home game of the 2003-04 season at the BI-LO Center on Friday, October 24, 2003 against the Charlotte Checkers. The puck will drop at 7:05pm. There are approximately 1,000 seats still available for the game, which will feature a long list of entertainment and promotional activity.
The following is a list of promotions / entertainment that will be featured at the home opener: ·The first 5,000 fans will receive a free magnetic schedule â sponsored by Verizon Wireless and Charter Communications ·There have been 300 tickets sold through the "Big Buddy" program, which give the companies and individuals the chance to purchase tickets for non-profit groups. Along with a great seat for the game, the ticket include a Carolina Pride hot dog, a Pepsi, Animal Crackers, and a special gift ·The Amazing Twisty People will be in concourse throughout the night making balloon animals for the kids ·Michael Mobley will entertain fans as they arrive by playing his Saxophone while moving throughout the concourse ·Joy Set Clowns will be performing in the concourse and in the stands during the entire event ·Uptown Entertainment will be in the Plaza Entrance with their musical trivia contests for all fans ·Jazz It Up (Riverside HS Dance Team) will be performing in the concourse at section 104 during pre-game and intermissions, as well as dance during the game at the top of section 108 ·As part of Youth Hockey Night, GHA Youth Hockey will have two teams playing during the first intermission ·The original "Grrruff" will make his return to Grrrowl games ·E-Dawg will make a return to the ice as part of the IceDawgs entertainment group during the game ·Loretta Holloway and Sarah Reese will perform "America the Beautiful" and the "Star Spangled Banner" â respectfully â prior to the start of the game ·Wayne Wooten (Easley resident, and UPS worker who rescued an elderly couple from their burning home) will be honored as he drops the ceremonial puck prior to the game as part of the Prudential C. Dan Joyner REALTORS program to salute local community heroes ·During the second intermission, there will be a Verizon Wireless Balloon Drop with 100 balloons being dropped from the catwalk for contestants to win great prizes ·The second intermission will also feature the WESC Human Puck ·Friday is Scout Night, with the first 1,000 pre-paid scouts receiving special Grrrowl Scout Night patches ·New Grrrowl merchandise, including the newly designed Grrrowl Replica Jerseys, will be available at Fan Wear locations
Amid the massive display of entertainment, there will also be a hockey game. The Grrrowl (0-1-0) play their second game of the season after dropping the initial contest to the South Carolina Stingrays, 3-2 in Charleston, SC last Saturday.
The Grrrowl have released the 2003-04 schedule, including "Opening Night presented by Verizon Wireless, on October 24th against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 PM. Greenville Grrrowl season tickets, mini-plans and flex packs are on sale now. Single game tickets will be on sale as of October 10, 2003.
