Grrrowl Open Weekend with 5-2 Win over Charlotte

GREENVILLE, S.C. – JONATHAN ROY and TYLER DEIS scored two goals apiece and JAYME PLATT recorded 41 saves as the Greenville Grrrowl beat the Charlotte Checkers in front of 5,015 at the BI-LO Center Friday night. JUDD MEDAK scored the other Greenville goal that also proved to be the game-winner.

Eduard Pershin gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead as he scored on the Checkers second shot on goal. Deis and Roy scored second period goals for Greenville giving the Grrrowl a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Dan Preston tied the game at 2-2 with his first goal of the season at 5:45 of the third period, but the Grrrowl scored three unanswered goals and posted the 5-2 victory.

Greenville is 3-0-0 against Charlotte this season with two regular season meetings remaining. The Grrrowl allowed a season-high 20 shots in the second period and 43 shots overall. Greenville was 1 for 4 on the powerplay, while Charlotte went o for 5 with the man-advantage.

The Grrrowl remain home to host the Southeast Division-rival Columbia Inferno tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7:35 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
