San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls are in the midst of another busy regular season. And no matter what place the team is in, players and staff know how important it is to reach out to the community. And considering Christmas is just around the corner, it's even more important for the Gulls to make their presence felt. Here's a list of what's coming up for the Blue and Orange off the ice:
Dec. 7: Start your holiday season off right with an exciting afternoon with all the Gulls players! Steve Martinson will make a special appearance as Santa Claus as the team presents it's all-new "HOLIDAY SKATE WITH THE GULLS" on Saturday at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For only $10, you'll skate with all of the Gulls players, and enjoy lunch with the team. Skate rental is also included! For more information call 619-224-4625 ext 309. All proceeds will benefit San Diego Youth Hockey.
Dec. 7: The Gulls' mascot, former captain B.J. MacPherson and Vice President Jeff Longo will be the parade marshals for the 23rd annual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade. The evening parade will begin at 5:05 p.m. and travel three blocks down Newport Ave. and end with a tree-lighting ceremony and a surprise fireworks display.
Dec. 10: Six Gulls players will participate in the Junior Seau Foundation's eighth annual "Shop With A Jock." The event will allow approximately 200 underprivileged children the opportunity to shop for gifts for their loved ones. Each child will shop with an athlete from the Chargers, Gulls, Padres or local college athletic team. For more information on "Shop With A Jock," please call the Junior Seau Foundation at 858-244-7328 ext 102.
Dec. 11: MacPherson is scheduled to speak to the Old Pros of Scripps Ranch about the team and hockey in general.
Dec. 12: The Gulls and the North Bay Association are teaming up for the second annual "Help Just One" event, which helps local, at-risk, needy children. Some 75 children will be participating this year and each will receive pre-requested gifts, a holiday feast, a surprise from SeaWorld and a special visit from Santa Claus. Children and their families will also have the opportunity to skate on the ice.
Dec. 16: Players and staff will participate in the second annual "Pucks and Pasta" dinner, held at the Hard Rock Café in downtown. Fans will have their opportunity to wine and dine with the players and get their hands autographed memorabilia. There will be an auction and raffle for these items, which will go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
Dec. 28: Fans with the highest bid on the "Jerseys Off Their Backs Night" held Nov. 1, will get their special game-worn jerseys presented to them by the players. All the proceeds for the jersey auction went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event will take place after the game and each winner will have his/her picture taken with the player whose jersey he/she bid on.
