Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Growlers completed their second game in the series against the Green Bay Bullfrogs 3-0 thanks to pitchers Jeff Burch and Tommy Sommer. The Growlers improved 8-4 while the Bullfrogs dropped to 4-8. Burch pitched six strike outs while Sommer pitched two.

Paw Paw native Burch pitched three back-to-back strike outs in the fourth inning, but it was a scoreless game until Kalamazoo ended the scoring drought in the bottom of the fifth inning; freshman Zach Daniels hit a home run. This was his second home run of the season.

Sullivan started the sixth inning with a walk, then he advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Baron Radcliff then stepped up to bat, made a hit, and when the Bullfrogs missed the catch, Jason Sullivan ran home. The Growlers went up 2-0.

Sommer entered the game pitching in the seventh inning, and he struck out a Bullfrog. Austin Krzeminiski led the Growlers when he hit a home run past leftfield.

In the eighth inning, Sommer pitched another strikeout, his second of the game. Burch, in addition to his three strikeouts in the fourth inning, pitched one strike out each in the first and second innings.

This was the second shutout game for the Growlers this season, with the first against the Kenosha Kingfish earlier this week. Their next game will be away on June 10 against the Rockford Rivets. Their next home game will be against the Wisconsin Woodchuck on June 12 at home here at Homer Stryker Field.
