Huskies' Small Ball Leads to Big Win
June 9, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
The Duluth Huskies struck early and often, scoring four runs in the first inning in their 11-8 win over the Willmar Stingers to begin a four-game homestand. The win comes on the heels of a loss at Waterloo which ended a five-game win streak.
The Huskies strung together 14 singles in the game, and stole five bases as a team, with Sam Baier (Augustana) recording the only extra-base hit, a double that nearly cleared the fence in left field.
Training 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Augie Isaacson (Friends) led off the game manufacturing a run by himself. Isaacson dropped down a bunt for a single, then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error. Duluth scored three more in that first inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Tor Sehnert (Coastal Carolina) played his first game in a Husky uniform, and it was a good one. Sehnert had an RBI single in both of his first two at bats. He finished 3-5 and adding a stolen base.
Levi Shandrew (Eastern New Mexico) got the win after pitching two innings of relief and allowing two runs. Logan VanWey (Missouri Southern) got the save coming in for the ninth.
With the win, Duluth remains in a five-way tie for first place in the North division with a 7-4 record.
The Huskies take on the Stingers again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. for a rematch. Andrew Stout will make his second start for the Huskies.
