Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Rafters continue to defend their home, as they are now 5-0 against the Dock Spiders at Witter Field. The 11-2 blowout last night, advanced the Rafters to 7-4 on the season which ties them for second in the South Division Standings with the Kalamazoo Growlers. The Rafters are one game back from the South Division leaders, who are on a six-game win streak: fellow Big Top Baseball team the Madison Mallards.
The Dock Spiders are now 5-6 and on a three-game losing streak. After last night's loss, they are now seventh in the South Division Standings. The Dock Spiders put up two runs, one in the first and one in the eighth on five hits. They were outhit by the Rafters, who put up 19.
Although the Dock Spiders did not perform offensively, one can commend their versatility shown last night. The Dock Spiders had position players pitching, a pitcher hitting and a variety of defensive changes.
On the mound tonight for the Rafters is Jake Cook (Birmingham Southern). Cook has a 1-0 record with the Rafters, achieved during the 13-1 win over the Green Bay Bullfrogs in his Rafters debut. The righthander maintains a 0.00 ERA and has stuck out five in 4.0 innings pitched.
John Young is pitching tonight for Fond du Lac. Young has two appearances with the Dock Spiders. He maintains a 0.00 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched, and has given up seven hits with six strikeouts.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
