Growlers Drop Nailbiter against Pit Spitters

Kalamazoo, Mich. - In another back-and-forth ballgame, the Growlers dropped their Friday night matchup up against the Pit Spitters 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite comparatively shorter stints due to limits on pitch counts, both starting pitchers in game two of the series worked well. Adam Berghorst across four innings gave up just one earned run, while striking out five and stranding the bases loaded in the second. Berghorst topped at 94 and gave up just one lone mistake, an RBI ground-rule double off the bat of Parker Brosius.
- Pit Spitters starter Nico Saldias cruised through the first three innings before dealing with a dicey fourth and fifth. Following a walk and a single, the Growlers would tie the game at one following a ground ball double play.
- After the Pit Spitters took the lead back the next frame, Kalamazoo evened it up once more on Gabe Springer's eighth home run of the season. A scorching line-drive 98 mph off the bat went three feet over the wall in right field.
- Another long-ball, the Growlers 40th of the season came hot off the bat of Banks Tolley in the seventh. At 99 mph, Tolley's backside home run to right handed him back the team-lead on home runs this season.
- With a single sandwiched in between a groundout and a strikeout, it looked to be that Jake Carroll would hand the Growlers a one-run lead headed into the ninth. However, a pair of walks set up the bases loaded for Michael Tchavdarov. In just his second game with Traverse City, Tchavdarov came through with his fourth base hit, singling up the middle to score the game tying and go-ahead runs. The Growlers would go down in order in the ninth, sealing a one-run Traverse City win.
