Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
In their fourth straight game against Green Bay, the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-20) fell to the Rockers (17-13) 14-1 Sunday afternoon at Capital Credit Union Park.
The Rockers got on the board the first chance they had. In the bottom of the first inning, Kendal Ewell drew a leadoff walk and stole second base to get into scoring position. On what would have been a groundout, Lakeshore second baseman Jack Counsell made a fielding error, giving Green Bay a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Cooper Kelly led off the frame for the Rockers with a solo home run to right field, extending his team's lead to two runs. Mateo Matthews then drew a walk and advanced to third base on a single by Max Mims.
Matthews would steal second base, putting runners on second and third with no outs. An RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly gave the Rockers a 4-0 lead heading into the third inning.
Green Bay's offense broke open the game in the bottom of the third inning. A single and a walk put runners at first and second to lead off the frame.Matthews then hit a three-run home run to put the Rockers in front by seven runs.
Smith then gave up a double and single to put runners on first and third with one out. A double steal put Green Bay ahead 8-0 heading into the fourth inning.
The Rockers scored yet again in the bottom of the fourth. Lakeshore reliever DJ Kojis gave up a single and two walks to load the bases with no outs. Another walk plated Green Bay's ninth run on the day.
With the bases still loaded, Ewell cleared the bases with a grand slam that put the Rockers up 13-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, Green Bay added to its lead once more with Kelly's second solo home run of the day, putting the team in front 14-0.
The Chinooks would score one run in the top of the ninth, but it would not be enough to overcome the deficit as the Rockers defeated them for the fourth time in a row. This also extended the Chinooks' losing streak to five.
Lakeshore is back in action tomorrow night as it faces off against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch from Moonlight Graham Field is set for 6:35 p.m. CST.
