Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH-The Utah Grizzlies couldn't get all they wanted out of a strong third period as they battled back from a three-goal deficit only to run out of time and fall short 4-3 to the Mighty Ducks of Cincinnati. Erik Westrum had a pair of assists for Utah and two of Utah's three goals came from defensemen.

The first period was controlled by Cincinnati. The Ducks were able to capitalize on several poor passes and Utah's inability to gather momentum. Several penalties slowed Utah down and allowed Cincinnati to spent most of their time in their offensive zone. As the dust settled the Ducks were up 2-0 at the first intermission behind goals from Joel Perrault and Joel Stepp.

Cincinnati outscored Utah 2-1 in the second despite a flurry of shots on Ilya Bryzgalov as Utah outshot the Ducks 17-6 in the frame. Of the 17 shots the one that found the back of the net for the Grizzlies was from Rick Berry, his first goal of the season. Stanislav Chistov and Curtis Glencross each netted goals for the Ducks making it 4-1 after two period.

Utah came charging back in the third period closing the gap to just one goal with 4:44 to play. Kiel McLeod and Matthew Spiller each scored goals for the Grizzlies but Bryzgalov held the rush off as he gained his second victory of the season despite being tested with 34 shots on goal.

In the game the Grizzlies outshot the Ducks by 14 (34-20) and out chanced Cincinnati with quality looks but the Ducks netminder proved to be just too much for the Grizzlies

Tomorrow the Grizzlies will travel to San Antonio to play their division rivals the Rampage. The game starts at 6:05 MST and will be broadcast on ESPN Radio AM 1230.
