HOUSTON, TX â Mike Smith stopped 35 shots to help the Houston Aeros defeat the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, 3-1, Saturday at the Toyota Center.
Mark Cullen, Brent Burns and Kirby Law scored first-period goals for the Aeros, who are 2-2-0-0 in home openers since joining the AHL in 2001-02.
Smith, a Dallas Stars prospect, made 23 saves to improve his record to 4-0-0 in six career games against Cincinnati.
Alexei Smirnov had the lone goal and Frederic Cassivi had 18 saves for Cincinnati, which finished its season-opening three-game road trip 2-1-0-0.
The Ducks begin a three-game homestand Saturday, October 23 when they face Rochester at 7:35 p.m. at Cincinnati Gardens.
