Gateway Grizzlies News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Three Gateway Grizzlies relievers combined to pitch four shutout innings and the Grizzlies held on to defeat the Evansville Otters 6-3 Sunday afternoon in the finale of the three game weekend series at Bosse Field. The win gave the Grizzlies a sweep of the Otters and improved their record to 5-4 on the season. The Otters fell to 1-8 with their fifth loss in a row.
The Grizzlies scored the first runs of the game in the first inning. Ryan Khoury led off the game with a walk and Logan Parker smashed a two-run homer inside the left field foul pole to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.
That lead would be short lived as the Otters scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
The score would stay 2-2 until the fourth when Jeremy Cresswell drove in his third run of the season with a single to give the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead.
The Grizzlies would extend their lead to three runs in the fifth as Charlie Lisk drove in a run with an RBI double and Joe Agreste followed with a single that drove in Lisk.
The Otters would threaten in the fifth, but they managed just one run on two hits.
The Grizzlies bullpen did an excellent job shutting out the Otters over the last four innings. Corey Davisson, Nick Walters and Jake Shafer all threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the Grizzlies victory. Shafer picked up the save, his first of the season after closing out 11 with the Grizzlies in 2010. Adrian Garza (1-1) notched the win in his second start of the season by giving up just three runs in five innings.
The Grizzlies will enjoy a league wide off day on Monday before starting a six game homestand on Tuesday with the first of three games against the Traverse City Beach Bums. B.J. Dail will get the start on Tuesday for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05.
