Southern Illinois Miners News Release
NORMAL, Ill. - The Miners extended their winning streak to five games with a dramatic three run ninth inning and a 5-3 win over Normal on Sunday at the Corn Crib. Will Block homered to tie the game at 2-2 in the seventh inning and then delivered a one out double to tie the game at 3-3 in the ninth. He scored the winning run two batters later on Kenji Sakaguchi's two-run double.
Erik Draxton nailed down his third save when Justin Randall threw out the catcher at first base on a line drive to right field. Ryan Zink was impressive in his first start with the Miners, surrendering three runs, only one of them earned in seven innings to take a no-decision.
Cory Cowsert extended his scoreless streak to eight innings to start the year and picked up his third win out of the bullpen. With the win, the Miners extend their lead in first place to two games. Following an off day Monday, they will open a six-game homestand on Tuesday against Washington with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Sean Teague will be on the hill for the Miners against Justin Hall for Washington.
