Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa. - Tom Cochran, a former pitcher for the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, was called up to the Major Leagues on Sunday by the Cincinnati Reds, becoming the first Wild Thing player to make to the highest level of professional baseball nine years to the day after the team's first-ever game.

Cochran, a left-handed pitcher, played for the Wild Things in 2006 and 2007. In his first season with the Wild Things in 2006, Cochran pitched three shutouts, two off the Frontier League mark for most in a season. That year, he went 8-5 with a 3.25 ERA and followed with a 6-8, 3.90-ERA performance in 2007, when he was a mid-season Frontier League All-Star selection and helped the Wild Things to advance to the Championship Series. In 42 games for the Wild Things, Cochran struck out 198 batters.

The Wilmington, Del., native signed with the Reds organization in 2009 and has played at the AA and AAA levels ever since, spending time with Carolina in the Southern League and Louisville in the International League. This season, he had posted a 5-1 record with a 4.08 ERA for AAA Louisville before the call-up by the Reds.

The Wild Things began their tenth season, presented by National Gold & Silver Refinery, this month and just concluded their opening homestand at CONSOL Energy Park. The team returns to Washington on Tuesday, June 7, at 6:35 p.m. against the Southern Illinois Miners.
