Grizzlies Sign Three Players

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies announced today that they have signed left wing Mike Sgroi (SGROY), defenseman Regan Darby and center Zenon Konopka to one-year contracts. Per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Sgroi, 24, played 26 games with the Grizzlies last season scoring a goal and recording 59 penalty minutes. The Orlando, Florida native also skated in 41 games with the Lexington Men-O-War (ECHL) totaling 20 points (10-10 - 20) and 179 penalty minutes. In three playoff games with Lexington, Sgroi registered one assist and 14 penalty minutes. The 6'5", 230-pound left wing has amassed 655 penalty minutes in 179 career games in the AHL, ECHL and UHL.

Darby, 23, played in 10 games with the Manitoba Moose (AHL) last season recording 30 penalty minutes while not scoring a point. The Estevan, Saskatchewan native helped lead the Columbia Inferno to the ECHL Championship series with an assist and 20 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games. In 48 regular season games with Columbia, Darby scored a goal and had seven assists with 170 penalty minutes. The 6'2", 200-pound blueliner was originally a fourth round selection (90th overall) of the Vancouver Canucks during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Konopka, 22, played in four games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) notching an assist and adding nine penalty minutes. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native also played in 68 games with Wheeling (ECHL) last season scoring 22 goals and adding 48 assists for 70 points with 231 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 190-pound center played four seasons of junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's (OHL) scoring 53 goals and adding 132 assists for 185 points with 389 penalty minutes in 242 career games.

All three players will participate in Grizzlies training camp beginning on September 28.
