Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, Miss. â The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced on Wednesday at a press conference at the Grand Casino Hotel in Gulfport, that the team has agreed to terms with veteran right wing Roger Maxwell for the 2003-04 season.
Maxwell, 27, returns to Mississippi after playing parts of the first two seasons with the Sea Wolves from 1996-98. His Sea Wolves totals include three goals and seven assists in 69 games, while accumulating 491 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound native of Brampton, Ontario enters his eighth professional season. Last year, he appeared in 40 games for the Long Beach (California) Ice Dogs of the West Coast Hockey League registering six assists and ranking second in the league with 388 penalty minutes. Maxwell also brings championship experience. He was a member of the 1997 Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League championship team along with teammates Bob Woods and Steffon Walby. He also won a Calder Cup in 1999 with the Providence Bruins.
"I wanted to come back to the Sea Wolves because this is where I started my pro career and had the most fun," said Maxwell. "Being a part of the championship team in Hershey with Bob and Steffon were two more reasons to return. I want to be part of a Kelly Cup winning team in Mississippi. I'm still a physical player and I look forward to taking a leadership role this season."
"Roger Maxwell has been a fan favorite everywhere he plays and he's going to bring more excitement back to Mississippi," said Sea Wolves coach and director of hockey operations Bob Woods. "He's a huge presence on the ice and will be the toughest guy in the league. With his championship experience, he is going to be a big plus on and off the ice."
Mississippi opens its eighth ECHL season on Friday, October 17 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi against the Louisiana IceGators.
Season seat packages, flex plans and discounted group tickets are on sales by calling 228-275-WOLF.
