Reading Royals News Release
(Reading, PA) â The Reading Royals and Ozzy's Sports Fun Center have announced they are partnering up for the 2003-04 season. The partnership includes a cross marketing campaign between the Royals and Ozzy's to promote deck and inline hockey in Berks and surrounding counties. The core of the agreement is to provide area youths with increased opportunities to get involved in clinics and leagues. Royals general manager Ray Delia said he is looking forward to the new partnership.
"I was impressed with Ozzy's community commitment and their overall vision to provide a facility geared towards giving young people throughout the county a safe, fun environment to be active. We are excited about this partnership."
Ozzy's Sports Fun Center, located on Route 61 in Leesport, is committed to promoting youth deck and inline hockey in the future. The Starhawks, established in 1998, is non-profit, volunteer operated organization that develops hockey for kids ages 5 through 16. The Starhawks Youth Hockey Association has increased its participation in their first four years over 400%. They now have over 200 kids and 50 adult volunteers participating in the program. The Starhawks have officially partnered with Ozzy's Sports Fun Center to be the exclusive youth hockey programs provider for both deck and inline hockey.
"Teaming up with the Royals and Starhawks, an established youth hockey organization, is a win-win-win situation for all involved," said Dean Gibson of Ozzy's. "We feel with our new partners (The Royals and Starhawks) the opportunity to increase participation in youth hockey programs is limitless."
"This is just another opportunity for the Royals to get involved and give back to the community," Delia said. "Since our organization began we have hosted several inline and ice hockey clinics, as well as, teamed up with the Junior Royals to help more and more kids enjoy the great sport of hockey. All of the efforts of our partners go to ensuring that hockey continues to grow in popularity with today's youth."
The Reading Royals, Starhawks and Ozzy's first clinic is scheduled for Saturday, October 11 at Ozzy's Sports Fun Center from 2-4 p.m. CTCE is the presenting sponsor of the event. Royals players will be in attendance to instruct at the clinic. Further details of the event will be announced in the near future. As in the past, the Royals will continue to serve the community with their portable deck and inline hockey rink. The Starhawks and Ozzy's will also be assisting in these clinics throughout the season.
The Royals face off their third season on Friday, October 17 in Trenton against the Titans. The Royals home opener is slated for Saturday, October 18 versus the expansion Texas Wildcatters.
