Utah Grizzlies News Release

Adrenalin was rushing for both teams as the game started fast and physical. A total of ten penalties were called in the first period, 6 on San Antonio and 4 on Utah. But neither club could capitalize with the man advantage despite five power play chances for the Rampage. The Grizzlies had the lead with shots on net at the end of twenty, edging out the Rampage 11 to 9, but the game was scoreless after one period of play.

It was a complete turn around in the second, especially with the power play unit. With a man advantage early on in the frame, Eric Landry recorded his 12th goal of the season at the 1:16 mark. Greg Hawgood and Jim Montgomery got credit for the assists, finding Landry on the doorstep of the San Antonio goal. Five minutes later and a man up again, Greg Hawgood and Jim Montgomery pitched in again helping a wide-open Steve Gainey get his second goal of the season while right in front of Rampage goaltender Chris Mason giving the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. The special teams again shinned for the Grizzlies who went 2 for 3 on the power play in the second.

In the third, both teams kept the pace running high, but neither squad could find the back of the net. The last ninety seconds of play the Rampage took Chris Mason out of the net and had a 5 on 3 advantage due to a Utah penalty. Jason Bacashihua met the challenge and denied a barrage of chances by the visiting lineup and recorded the first Grizzlies shut out of the season and his first professional shutout, turning away 30 shots on goal.

Utah tallied a total of 36 shots on net over San Antonio's 30 as a strong Mason made 34 saves in a losing effort. The Grizzlies power play finished 2 for 7 and they killed all nine Rampage chances.

With the victory, Utah is now unbeaten in regulation in their last seven home games (6-0-0-1).

Three Stars: 1. Jason Bacashihua, 30 saves (shut out) 2. Greg Hawgood, 2 assists 3. Jim Montgomery, 2 assists

Next Game: The Grizzlies will play Saturday against the Houston Aeros at the E-Center. Face-off is at 7:00 PM.
