GREENSBORO GENERALS

The Generals defeated the Charlotte Checkers 3-1 last night at the Coliseum. Jay Murphy was the offensive hero, scoring all three goals for his second hat trick of the season. His first two goals were both scored in the first period for a 2-0 advantage. The Checkers cut the lead to 2-1 late in the first period, and it stayed that way all the way until the final minute when Murphy added an empty net goal to seal the win. Jamie Hodson was brilliant in goal for the victory, stopping 29 of 30 shots.

GREENVILLE GRRROWL

The Grrrowl shut out the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-0 on the road last Tuesday night in their last game. All four of the Greenville goals were scored in the second period, with Tyler Deis leading the attack with the first and last goal of the game. Jonathan Roy and Chris Gustafson also scored for the Grrrowl, while Matt Demarski chipped in with three assists. Jayme Platt recorded the shutout in goal by stopping all 36 shots he faced.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS

- 12/11 Goaltender Jamie Hodson was reassigned to the Generals by the St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL).

- 12/11 Waived goaltender Edgars Eihvalds.

- Goaltender Jamie Hodson is 3-0-1 in his last four appearances, with a goals against average of 2.06 and a .950 save percentage.

- Greensboro won their ninth home game of the year last night. They won only nine home games all last year.

ABOUT THE GAME

This is the first of three meetings between the Generals and Grrrowl this year, and the only game to be played in Greensboro. The Generals were 2-3-0 against Greenville last season, and are 4-10-3 all-time against the Grrrowl. The other two games of the season series will both be played in Greenville, on February 8 and on the final day of the regular season on March 30. Don't forget fans, you can also tune into all home games in the Coliseum on closed circuit radio (96.5 FM), with Arley Johnson handling the play-by-play. NEXT HOME GAME: The Generals homestand closes out on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00, when the Generals host the Columbia Inferno on "Teddy Bear Toss" night. Anyone who comes to the game with a stuffed animal will get a buy one ticket, get one free offer. The Bears will be given to the pediatric ward of Moses Cone hospital for children staying there over the holidays. The Generals are also at home next Saturday night at 7:30 against the Richmond Renegades. All games can be heard on WPET 950-AM.
