Greensboro Generals News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The Greensboro Generals defeated the Greenville Grrrowl 5-2 at the Greensboro Coliseum tonight, leaving them just one point out of first place in the Northeast Division. The Generals were able to capitalize on Pizza Hut's "Guaranteed Win Night," as everyone in attendance will receive a free personal pan pizza. With the victory, the Generals jumped ten games over the .500 mark at 16-6-4, while the Grrrowl dropped to 13-11-2.
Greenville jumped out to an early lead on a power-play conversion by Matt Demarski at the 2:31 mark of the first period. The Generals would knot the score at 1-1, with a Vlad Serov goal with 2:59 remaining in the first period.
The Generals would get their first lead 3:09 into the second period with a Jay Murphy goal. Jonathan Roy converted a power-play for the Grrrowl to tie the score at 2-2 with just four seconds remaining in the second period.
The Generals pulled away with three goals in the final frame to earn the victory. The first came just 2:46 into the third period, when Geno Parrish gave the Generals a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish. At the 15:43 mark of the third, Vlad Serov would score his second goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-2. The final Generals goal of the period came with 1:50 remaining in the game, as Mark Turner added an empty net goal.
Playing behind an outstanding offensive performance was netminder Jamie Hodson, who stopped an astounding 52 shots on the night. His best numbers were put up in the first period, as he kept the Generals in the game with 20 saves.
The Generals next host the Columbia Inferno on Wednesday, December 18th , with a 7:00 start for "Teddy Bear Toss" night. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game and toss the stuffed animals onto the ice when the Generals score their first goal. The stuffed animals will be hand-delivered to the Pediatric Ward of Moses Cone Hospital by the Generals players the following afternoon at 1:00.
