About Tuesday Night...The Colorado Springs Sky Sox beat up on the Grizzlies 25-7 to earn a series split. With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth, the Sky Sox posted a 9-run 6th, an 8-run 7th, and a 3-run 8th putting the game out of reach. RHP Jeremy Fikac (3-4) suffered the loss in relief of RHP Brad Hennessey who left the game after a half hour rain delay in the fifth inning. RF Adam Shabala and 3B Jed Hansen each homered in the loss.
Am I Reading This Right...The 25 runs scored by Colorado Springs was the most runs given up in a game in the 7 ½ year existence of the Grizzlies. They twice surrendered 23 runs, once on 7/30/00 vs. Iowa (L 2-23) and again on 4/16/01 @ Calgary (L 12-23). The Sky Sox set opponent season-highs for runs, hits (27), runs in an inning (9), hits in an inning (9), extra-base hits (15) and doubles (10) in the blowout.
Roster Moves...RHP Brandon Puffer has accepted his assignment in Fresno and will join the Grizzlies today in Tucson. Puffer was 0-0 with a 10.29 ERA in three appearances with the Giants since being called up on 6/17. RHP LaTroy Hawkins will start a rehab assignment today for the Grizzlies in Tucson. Hawkins went on the disabled list 6/17 with right ulnar neuritis.
Mark Of Consistency...2B Mickey Lopez has quietly put together a 20-game hit streak, the second longest streak in franchise history. The streak began on May 24 and continued with his 1 for 4 performance Tuesday night. During the streak Lopez is batting .375 (33-88) with 8 2B, 5 3B, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 20 R, 7 BB and 13 SO. INF Dave Doster set the new benchmark last season after stringing together a 32-game hit streak, shattering the previous mark of 19 games set by Dante Powell in 1999.
Tonight's Starting Pitcher...RHP Matt Cain (4-4) will make his 16th start of the season tonight for the Grizzlies. The 20-year-old phenom leads the Grizzlies in starters ERA with 4.13 and strikeouts with 91, good enough for second in the PCL. Cain lost his last outing in Portland allowing 6 R on 8 H with 4 SO in 6 IP. Cain has not endured much success this season against the Sidewinders compiling a 0-0 record with a 12.38 ERA in two games against Tucson.
