TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Iowa Cubs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. Last year, Iowa went 79-64 and finished first in the PCL Central. They beat the RedHawks in five games in the opening round of the playoffs and were swept by Sacramento in the PCL Championship series.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their four-game series with Iowa . The RedHawks have lost 17 of their last 21 games. The RedHawks are 2-10 on Fridays. A group from Graceway Baptist Church will sing the national anthem. Tonight is Faith Night with fireworks presented by McDonald's.
STANDINGS: The RedHawks are in second place, four games behind Albuquerque.
LAST GAME: The RedHawks were shutout for the fifth time this season, losing 3-0 to Iowa . The Cubs' John Koronka pitched eight innings and gave up five hits, all singles, with no walks and seven strikeouts. The RedHawks didn't have more than one hit in any inning and advanced only one runner past first base. Jason Conti and Manny Alexander both had two hits for the RedHawks. RedHawk starter Derek Lee pitched six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
VS. IOWA: The RedHawks have already finished their season series at Iowa . The Cubs will now play eight games in Oklahoma City over the next 26 days. Oklahoma swept the first series at Iowa and then were swept by the Cubs in their return visit. Marshall McDougall is 7-for-19 [.368] with a home run and six RBIs in five games against Iowa. He has a hit in all five games against the Cubs this year.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Oklahoma's R.A. Dickey makes his seventh start this season for the RedHawks. He retired 14 batters in a row in each of his last two starts. He is the RedHawks' all-time leader in wins [30], appearances [106], starts [76], strikeouts [362] and innings [ 550.1]. Todd Wellemeyer starts for Iowa . He has not faced the RedHawks this season.
STREAKERS: Outfielder Jason Conti is on a four-game hitting streak. He is 6-for-17 [.353] with two RBIs during the streak. Oklahoma starters have lost their last seven decisions.
ADRIAN GONZALEZ: First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 7-for-15 [.412] with a double and an RBI in five games since returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for 12 games.
MARSHALL MCDOUGALL: In his last eight games, Marshall McDougall is 10-for-31 [.323] at the plate with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
BULLPEN: In the last three games, the RedHawks bullpen has allowed one earned run in 9.2 innings [0.93 ERA]. The bullpen has allowed two walks and struck out five the last three games.
JUNE: The RedHawks were 10-18 in June after starting the month 6-1. Both Rashad Eldridge and Chad Allen hit .308 [both 24-for-78] to lead the RedHawks. Ian Kinsler had five home runs and 24 RBIs to lead the team during June.
ATTENDANCE: Yesterday was the second sell-out crowd this year for the RedHawks and third crowd over 13,000. The RedHawks have drawn 287,926 fans to 39 games at SBC Bricktown Ballpark [average: 7,383]. They also had one home date at Tulsa 's Drillers Stadium. Last year, the RedHawks had three sell outs.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: RedHawks Esteban German, Ian Kinsler, and Gerald Laird have been selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and will play in the Triple-A All-Star Game July 13 in Sacramento , Calif. ... Manager Bobby Jones was named a coach for the World team for the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game July 10 in Detroit. He will also be the Pacific Coast League hitting coach for the Triple-A All-Star Game ... The RedHawks have lost five games when the opponent scores three runs ... They have lost seven games when the opponent scores three runs or less ... The RedHawks have been shutout five times this year, twice they have lost 3-0.
