
Late-inning runs not enough for Express

(Round Rock, TX) - The New Orleans Zephyrs jumped out to a five to nothing lead and were able to hold off the Express offense tonight at The Dell Diamond in front of a crowd of 10,159.
The Express and Zephyrs traded zeros for the first three innings of the game but in the top of the fourth inning, New Orleans scored three runs off of twenty-two year old Fernando Nieve. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Nieve hit 2B Brandon Harris and then allowed back-to-back home runs off the bats of RF J.J. Davis and C Craig Kuzmic.
The Zephyrs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on three hits to make the score 5-0, New Orleans.
The Express offense came to life in the late innings. The Express broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the sixth inning on a 3B Mike Coolbaugh RBI double that plated SS Danny Klassen.
The Express went on to put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning highlighted by a RF Todd Self RBI triple.
Danny Klassen hit his fourteenth homer of the season in the ninth inning but it was not enough as the Zephyrs held on for the 6-4 victory.
Express starter Fernando Nieve (1-2) took the loss and Zephyrs starter Brian Powell earned his fifth victory of the season.
The two teams meet tomorrow night at 7:05 PM for the third game of the four game series. All fans will receive Coca-Cola Flag Pins in salute of "All-America Night" at The Dell Diamond. RHP Travis Driskill will get the start for the Express and he will be opposed by lefty Matt White.
