About Last Night...The Grizzlies took the first game of a 4-game series against the Sidewinders 3-1 in Tucson. RHP Matt Cain earned his fifth win of the season allowing 1 R on 2 H with 6 SO in 6 IP. 3B Brian Dallimore had 2 What A Difference A Day Off Makes...The Grizzlies rebounded from one of their worst losses ever on Tuesday night and held the Sidewinders to only 1 R and 3 H in the ballgame. The 25 runs scored by Colorado Springs was the most runs given up in a game in the 7 ½ year existence of the Grizzlies.
Roster Moves...RHP Kevin Correia has been recalled by the Giants and will start tonight's game against the San Diego Padres. Correia has excelled since returning to a starting role for the Grizzlies including going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in his last two starts. RHP Jesse Foppert went on the DL making room for Correia on SF's roster. RHP LaTroy Hawkins will continue a rehab assignment today for the Grizzlies in Tucson. Hawkins went on the disabled list 6/17 with right ulnar neuritis. He pitched a scoreless 8th inning in last night's ballgame allowing 0 R on 1 H
All Good Things Must Come To An End...2B Mickey Lopez had his 20-game hit streak snapped with a 0-3 night last night. The streak began on May 24 and continued with his 1 for 4 performance Tuesday night. During the streak Lopez is batting .375 (33-88) with 8 2B, 5 3B, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 20 R, 7 BB and 13 SO. INF Dave Doster set the new benchmark last season after stringing together a 32-game hit streak, shattering the previous mark of 19 games set by Dante Powell in 1999.
Tonight's Starting Pitcher...RHP Matt Kinney (2-3) will make his seventh start of the season tonight for Fresno. Kinney was originally scheduled to pitch tomorrow but was moved up with the Correia move. Kinney earned a win in his last start allowing 2 R on 6 H in 6 2/3 IP in a 15-2 Grizzlies win over Colorado Springs. Kinney has not faced the Sidewinders this season.
