Grizzlies Fall 2-1 In Shootout To Idaho

West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies (23-22-6-10) 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday night at the E-Center.

Grizzlies goaltender Mike Mole was strong in the first period, stopping all 11 of Idaho's shots. Utah also went scoreless in the first period despite having 3 power-play opportunities.

The first goal of the game came at 9:32 of the second period by Utah's Mark Pavli (7). The score was assisted by Mike Walsh, who drew two defenders, then dished it off. Scott Thauwald also picked up a helper on the play. At 17:24 of the second period, Idaho tied it up with a shorthanded goal.

The third period remained scoreless throughout, keeping it 1-1 at the end of regulation. The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 11-3 but were unable to score.

No goals were scored in the five-minute overtime. The shootout included nine shots by each team and was tied 2-2 after five shooters by each side. Sean Garrity of Idaho scored the third and final goal for the Steelheads in the first-half of round nine.

The Grizzlies head to Bakersfield for a two-game series Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; before coming back home to face Idaho Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
