Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies showed fantastic form on Friday night when they snapped an eight-game losing skid in an exciting 3-2 nail bitter versus the Cleveland Barons. The win was Utah's fifth in their last seven games at home.

The Grizzlies started the scoring in the second period with Matthew Spiller's point shot getting re-directed in front of Nolan Schaefer by Martin Sonnenberg for his seventh goal of the season. Cleveland tied the game on a power play goal by Shane Joseph, his eighth of the season, at the 17:23 mark. Utah answered the bell just over a minute later, also on the power play, when Peter White cleaned up a Peter Metcalf pass by Schaefer for his seventh goal of the season giving Utah a 2-1 lead after two periods.

In the third period, the Barons would once again tie the game with another power play goal by Grant Stevenson, his fifth of the season. Utah once again answered the bell again on the power play with a late third period goal scored by Aaron Gavey, his first of the season, assisted by Fredrik Sjostrom and Keith Ballard at the 14:35 mark of the frame. Gavey's goal proved to be the game winner and was his first goal in his 19th game played.

Utah outshot the Barons 34-20 in the game and went an impressive 2 for 3 on the power play. David LeNeveu made 18 saves for the Grizzlies winning his sixth game of the season.

The Grizzlies will again host the Barons tomorrow night at the 'E' Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (mt).
