Grizzlies Blanked by Bears

November 3, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

Hershey, PA * The Grizzlies came into Saturday's game looking for their first road victory of the season but the team could not overcome the peculiar bounces in the new Giant Center as they fell 5-0 to the Hershey Bears extending their road losing streak to four straight games.

Hershey scored their first goal off a weird deflection against the glass that shot the puck in front of an unguarded net and on to the tape of Steve Brule's stick for his first goal of the season. The Bears would add to their lead later in the first period when Brian Willsie scored on a terrific pass from Brule putting the score at 2-0 at the end of one period of play.

The Bears would continue their strong play in the second period when Steve Moore intercepted a pass and walked in on Jason Bacashihua scoring the game's third goal. Less than a minute later, Eric Bertrand would break his stick and send a bouncing puck off tons of traffic in front of Bacashihua putting the score at 4-0. Corey Hirsch would come in to replace Bacashihua for a couple of minutes and would also give up a goal to Riku Haul putting the game out of reach at 5-0 after two period of play and that is where the game would stay.

Utah once again was outshot by the opposition, 37-22. Hershey goaltender Phillipe Sauve made 22 saves for his first shutout of the season.

Three Stars:
1- Steve Brule (HER) 1 goal, 2 assists
2- Phillipe Sauve (HER) 22 saves
3- Steve Moore (HER) 1 goal

Next Game: The Grizzlies travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to play the Penguins Sunday afternoon. Face-off is scheduled for 3:05 mst.
