Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH (Mar. 21, 2003) - The Utah Grizzlies (33-29-4-4, 74 points) recent hot stretch has moved them into the seventh spot in the Western Conference playoff race leading a pair of teams by two points (Milwaukee and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton) and trailing one team by three points. That team just in front of the Grizzlies is the Hershey Bears (31-24-13-2, 77 points). Tonight at the E-Center, the Grizzlies and the Bears will battle for the second time this week with nothing accomplished in the first meeting, a 3-3 tie on Wednesday.

Utah has been playing well lately gaining points in each of their last six games posting a 4-0-1-1 record (10 of a possible 12 points). The Grizzlies have 10 games remaining in the regular season half of which will be at home.

Relative newcomer Dylan Gyori has been the talk of the town lately scoring seven goals in just 11 games with Utah. Gyori gained a measure of revenge on Wednesday night when he netted two goals against the Bears, the team that released him during training camp.

If the Grizzlies want to improve their defensive pressure tonight, they will have to do so minus their most punishing blueliner John Erskine who was re-called by the Dallas Stars today. Erskine had an assist in the tie on Wednesday and for the season has two goals and eight helpers to go along with his team-leading 241 penalty minutes. In 16 games with the Stars this season, Erskine has netted two goals and served 29 penalty minutes. Erskine joins right wing David Oliver, left wing Steve Ott and goaltender Corey Hirsch as Grizzlies call-ups with Dallas.

Following tonight's game, the Grizzlies will travel to the Alamo city for a pair of games with the San Antonio Rampage beginning tomorrow and concluding with a match-up on Monday night.

The action tonight at the E-Center can be seen on Fox Sport Net Rocky Mountain and heard on ESPN Radio AM 1230.
