Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH -- The Cincinnati Cyclones cut their magic number to five points to qualify for the East Coast Hockey League's Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 4-3 sudden death overtime win over the Johnstown Chiefs on Friday at U.S. Bank Arena.
The Cyclones were led by goaltender Greg Hewitt who made his first appearance since December 31. Hewitt was activated from the 30-Day Injured Reserve List earlier in the day. The netminder finished the night with 27 saves and showed no ill effects after missing the past 10 weeks following abdominal surgery.
Cincinnati grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first period of play on power-play goals from Jason Cannon and Joe Cardarelli.
In the second period, following a disputed Johnstown goal just 12 seconds into the frame, the Cyclones Matt Noga picked up his 24th goal of the season to reestablish a two-goal edge at 3-1.
Johnstown would score two thrid-period goals to even the score at 3-3. In overtime, the Cyclones got a power play chance and they would capitalize on the second goal of the night for Cardarelli to win 4-3.
The Cyclones host the Lexington Men O' War on Saturday at 7:05 PM.
