Steelheads Set Team Record With 48th Win

BOISE, Idaho - On a record-setting night, the Idaho Steelheads also reached the century mark for points with a 7-2 win over the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The crowd of 4,625 watched the Steelheads reach the 100-point mark at the Bank of America Centre Friday night, the first team in the West Coast Hockey League to hit the century-point milestone this season. The first place Steelheads are now 48-13-4.

The first goal of the game came at 2:50 from Jonathan Shockey who slid a muffin past Long Beach goaltender Martin Parrot, who was added to the roster for tonight's game. Assisting on the tally were Adam Copeland and league-leader in assists, Scott Swanson. The Steelheads took a two-goal lead at 4:44 when Scott Swanson scored on the power play with Cory Morgan and Joe Rybar recording the assists.

Idaho went up by three goals when Petr Suchanek got a one-timer by Parrot at 1:41 of the second. (McDade, Shockey). Cory Morgan scored the next two, with Joe Rybar and Dampy Brar each earning assists on both goals. Rybar notched an unassisted, shorthanded goal at 9:49 to give Idaho the 6-0 lead.

Only 33 seconds into the third, the Steelheads struck again. Derek Paget scored his eighth goal of the season, assisted by A.J. Begg and Swanson. Swanson's 60th assist brings him closer to the league record for defensemen of 64 assists set by Scott Drevitch of Tacoma in 1997-98. Long Beach finally got on the board at 6:10 with a goal by Tyrel Frisky. Denis Ladouceur and Pat Brush tallied assists on the goal. Jamie O'Leary of the Ice Dogs scored their second and final goal of the game with Mike Barrie and Tyler Willis each recording a point.

Steelheads goaltender Blair Allison improved his record to 18-3-3 with his 20 stops on the night, while Parrot lost his first start with the Ice Dogs stopping 18.
