Grimaldi Loaned To Rochester

Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that they have loaned rookie defenseman Joe Grimaldi to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. Grimaldi's loan marks the third time a member of the Jackals has been summoned to the AHL this season. Goaltenders Dan LaCosta and Joel Martin were earlier call-ups with Syracuse and Binghamton respectively.
Grimaldi, 21, appeared in both Jackals wins last weekend with no points and four penalty minutes. He signed an ECHL contract with Elmira in August and attended Rochester's AHL training camp in September.
"This opportunity for Joe is a perfect example of making a solid impression in Rochester's camp combined with being close and available, allowing Joe to get his first game in the AHL," said Jackals coach Steve Martinson upon announcing Grimaldi's loan to the Americans.
Grimaldi spent the last two seasons with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. Under legendary junior coach Brian Kilrea, Grimaldi notched 57 points (9+48) along with 266 penalty minutes in 92 games.
The Jackals also announced that they have added goaltender Maxime Joyal as an emergency back-up for tonight's game against Johnstown at First Arena. The move was necessitated by the placement of goaltender Joel Martin on the 3-day injured reserved list. Joyal dressed as the back-up to Martin in both games last weekend while Dan LaCosta was on recall to Syracuse (AHL). LaCosta will get his first ECHL start of the season tonight against Chiefs in a 7:35 p.m. face-off.
Good seats remain for tonight's contest at First Arena against the Johnstown Chiefs at 7:35 p.m. and when the South Carolina Stingrays invade Elmira for a 4:05 p.m. battle on Sunday.
Tickets for all Jackals home games are available at the First Arena box office (Gray Street) open Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Ticketmaster charge-by-phone by calling 722-3711 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
