Charlotte Checkers Announce First-Class Partnership
October 26, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, NC -The Charlotte Checkers announced today that American Airlines will become the official airline of the team.
This partnership will feature title sponsorship of the Checkers luxury seating section - American Airlines Royal Box Seats, signage on Checkers game-worn helmets and title sponsorship of the Charlotte Hockey Hall of Fame set to be revealed at a special ceremony and banner raising in Jan. 2008. Checkers will announce the members of the nomination committee on Nov. 2 that will be responsible for the selection of candidates for induction into the American Airlines Charlotte Hockey Hall of Fame. On Nov. 7, the Checkers and American Airlines will begin an enter-to-win contest for a trip for four to New York including airline tickets, a hotel stay and four tickets to a hockey game. The cut off date for entry to this contest will be on Dec. 20. On Nov. 23, the nomination committee will announce the inductee candidates and voting will begin at that time. The results will be announced on Jan. 11.
"We are particularly excited to be working with an industry leader such as American Airlines." said Checkers president, Jeff Longo. "As the ECHL continues to expand nationally, air travel has become more frequent for minor league teams. Our partnership with American Airlines is vital to our team's success as we travel to out-of-region ECHL cities."
In addition to team travel, the Checkers plan to utilize American Airlines for individual player travel to their affiliates in Hartford and New York; and, with the second most call-ups in the ECHL during the 2006-2007 season, the Checkers air travel needs are substantial.
The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Nov. 7 against the South Carolina Stingrays. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399. The Checkers are accepting deposits on all ticket packages. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
