Griffins power past Hershey 6-4

The Griffins score a half dozen as the BEARS fall in the first game of a three-game road trip.

Grand Rapids opened the scoring at 3:39 of the first period when Don MacLean picked up his 14th goal of the year. Eric Manlow then potted his 12th of the season for the Griffins at 11:24 just seventeen seconds into the team's first power play of the night. Joey Tenute then scored his eighth of the season at 14:28 to pull the BEARS within one, but Grand Rapids finished the period with a goal at 17:29 of the first when MacLean scored his second of the period. Cassivi was pulled after the goal at 17:29 in favor of Kirk Daubenspeck. The BEARS outshot the Griffins 11-9 in the first period, but trailed 3-1 after a period.

In the second period, the BEARS and Griffins traded goals, with Clay Wilson scoring for Grand Rapids at 5:40. Eric Fehr then brought HERSHEY back within two with his 14th of the season at 6:28. The BEARS outshot the Griffs 12-11 in the second period, but still trailed Grand Rapids by two with 40 minutes in the record books.

Kane opened the scoring in the third period with his ninth goal of the season at 2:23 of the third, but the Griffins responded with a goal from Jeff Nelson at 2:50. HERSHEY then picked up a goal from Mike Green at 14:15 to close within one, but MacLean finished a hat trick with a five-on-three power play goal at 17:52 to seal the victory.

The BEARS will face the Chicago Wolves Friday night at Allstate Arena. Face-off is at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. HERSHEY will face the Albany River Rats next Wednesday, December 28 at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
