Cleveland, OH - Jonathan Ferland scored one goal and added two assists on Thursday night as the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Cleveland Barons 5-3 at the Quicken Loans Arena. The win snaps the ‘Dogs two game losing skid and improves the team's record to 12-19-0-2.

Cleveland opened the scoring on the power play at the 9:24 mark of the first period when Steve Bernier tipped Ray DiLauro's shot from the high slot past Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis.

The Bulldogs scored two goals in a span of 1:10 near the end of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. Ferland netted his third goal of the season with the Bulldogs on the power play when he buried the rebound of an Andre Benoit shot at 16:34. Raitis Ivanans then scored his first goal of the season at 17:44.

Andre Kostitsyn scored a shorthanded goal just 1:04 into the middle frame to give Hamilton a 3-1 lead when he snapped a shot past Schaefer from the far face-off circle. Ferland and Jean-Philippe Cote, with his first point of the season, earned assists on the goal.

DiLauro brought the Barons to within a goal when he scored Cleveland's second power-play marker of the game, firing a shot from the point over Danis' shoulder.

Hamilton restored its two goal lead at 6:54 of the third period when Francis Lemieux rifled a shot from the high slot past Schaefer on the blocker side.

Garrett Stafford cut the Bulldogs lead to one goal at 17:06 with Cleveland shorthanded, but Lemieux scored his second goal of the game into an empty net at 19:17 to seal the victory for Hamilton.

Danis stopped 31 shots to earn his sixth victory of the season, while Schaefer made 29 saves and suffered the loss.

The Bulldogs scored once on seven power-play opportunities, while the Barons netted two markers on seven chances with the man-advantage.

Hamilton's next home action will take place tomorrow, Friday, December 23, when they host the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
