Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- A three-point night from Barons defenseman Ray DiLauro was spoiled in a 5-3 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs. Jonathan Ferland registered 1 goal and 2 assists in the win for Hamilton.

Both teams, having lost their last two games, showed a desperation in the game with a fast paced opening frame. The Barons struck first with a power play goal from rookie forward Steve Bernier. The power forward deflected a wrist shot from Ray DiLauro at the 9:24 mark past a sprawled out Hamilton Yann Danis, making his 11th appearance of the year for the Bulldogs. Ryane Clowe also assisted on the Barons tally. Hamilton settled down to answer with back-to-back goals separated by just 70-seconds to take their first lead of the night. Jonathan Ferland?s power play started the scoring for Hamilton with his third goal of the year followed by Raitis Ivanans first of the season at even strength. Both teams managed 13-shots on goal in the period.

The teams exchanged second period goals as Hamilton held onto their one-goal lead after forty minutes of action. Andrei Kostitsyn registered his sixth goal of the year short-handed just 74-seconds into the period extending the Bulldogs lead to 3-1. The Barons responded with a power play goal from Ray DiLauro with his third goal of the season to trim the Hamilton lead down to one goal. The Barons were outshot in the period by Hamilton 14-12.

Hamilton?s Francis Lemieux scored two third period goals sending the Barons to their third consecutive defeat with a 5-3 final. Lemieux?s first of the period came on a slap shot from the slot area at even strength to extend the Bulldogs? lead to 4-2. Ray DiLauro then earned his third point of the night setting up Garrett Stafford with a short-handed goal at the 17:06 mark of the final frame. Ryane Clowe also earned his second assist of the night helping on the team?s second goal of the year scored while short-handed. However, any ideas of a Barons comeback were nullified with an empty net goal from Lemieux with less than a minute to play in the game.

Tomorrow night your Barons play one more game before the Christmas break with a road contest at Grand Rapids. The game begins at 7pm EST and will be heard live via the B2-Networks on the Barons Official Web Site, www.clevelandbarons.net.
