Grand Rapids, Mich. - Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Marc Lamothe and the Fox Motor Group have teamed up with the American Cancer Society as a part of the Griffins' "Puck Pals" program.

The Fox Motor Group and Lamothe have agreed to each donate $1 for every save Lamothe makes during the 2002-03 season to the American Cancer Society. To date, he has made 254 saves, raising $508.

Additionally, the public is invited to drop loose change into collection bins, featuring a picture of Marc Lamothe, at Van Andel Arena and all Fox Motor Group locations, as a part of a new "Coins for Cancer" program.

Lamothe has also pledged to visit schools as a spokesperson for the ACS and its Active for Life program. He will speak about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding the use of tobacco.

"It's great to team up with the Fox Motor Group," Lamothe said. "It's something that I'm very proud of. It's definitely a very good cause and something that is close to home." Lamothe lost his father to cancer three years ago.

"We are excited about our recent partnership with the Grand Rapids Griffins and particularly with the support of Marc Lamothe. We are inspired by his passionate leadership and commitment to helping kids in our community," said Cindy Murdock, area executive director, American Cancer Society. "By presenting the American Cancer Society's Smokescream and Active For Life programs, he will be able to reach local middle school-aged children with positive messaging about leading a tobacco-free and healthy lifestyle."

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
