Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins extended their team-record unbeaten streak to 11 games (8-0-3-0) on Wednesday night, skating to a 2-2 tie with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at Van Andel Arena.

Rob Collins scored a power play goal with 6:46 remaining in the second period to force the deadlock and help Marc Lamothe tie another franchise mark with his personal 10-game unbeaten streak (6-0-4-0). With the tie, the Griffins (9-3-4-0) maintain their seven-point lead in the Central Division over the Mighty Ducks (5-6-3-2).

Grand Rapids, 4-0-2-0 in its last six home games, will host the expansion San Antonio Rampage this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Derek King gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead during a goal-mouth scramble at 12:58 of the first period, but a linesman's no-call on an offsides play led to Cincinnati's tying goal at 14:21. Although a Ducks forward preceded the puck into the offensive zone by a few feet, Brendan Yarema's shot from the high slot sailed over Lamothe's shoulder and counted on the scoreboard.

The teams traded power play markers in the second frame. Cincinnati's Mark Popovic beat Lamothe through the five-hole on a blast from the point just 1:44 into the period. The Griffins evened the score during their fifth man-advantage of the evening at 13:14, when Collins finished off a two-on-one rush with Stacy Roest.

Grand Rapids had ample opportunity to take two points, enjoying power plays for the final minute of regulation and three of five minutes during the extra session, but none of its seven overtime shots made it past Ducks goalie J.F. Damphousse, who stopped 35-of-37 on the night.

Lamothe made 29 saves to tie Simon Lajeunesse's team-record 10-game unbeaten streak (7-0-3-0), set last season.
