Griffins Hold Off Stars 2-1

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (29-16-3-4, 65 Points) were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins (23-28-0-1, 47 Points) 2-1 on Tuesday night in front of 3,950. The Griffins tallied a pair of first-period goals and held off a late charge from Texas, improving to 3-1-0-0 against the Stars this season. Griffins forwards Francis Pare and Patrick Rissmiller scored for Grand Rapids. Texas defenseman Trevor Ludwig scored the team's lone goal late in the third period. Stars goalie Matt Climie (14-14-3) stopped 27 of 29 Grand Rapids shots in the loss. Griffins goalie Daniel Larsson (15-15-1) made 30 saves in the win. Texas will host Chicago for games on Friday, Feb. 12th at 7:30 PM and on Saturday, Feb. 13th at 7:00 PM.

Grand Rapids winger Patrick Rissmiller opened the scoring during a power play with a shot off Stars goalie Matt Climie from the left-wing corner at 5:46 of the first period. The power-play goal was Rissmiller's 13th goal of the season. The Griffins increased their lead to 2-0 at 16:04, when right wing Francis Pare sent a shot past Climie, beating him on the stickside. Evan McGrath's backhanded pass from the right-wing circle set up Pare's 11th goal of the year.

After a scoreless second period, Stars defenseman Trevor Ludwig fired a shot from the blueline, cutting the Griffins lead in half at 2-1 with 4:02 remaining in the game. Stars Andrew Hutchinson and Scott McCulloch assisted on Ludwig's second goal of the year.

The Stars conclude a five-game home stand with a pair of games with Chicago on Friday, February 12th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, February 13th at 7:00 PM. On Friday night, the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Car Flag and fans may purchase $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. The State Farm Family four-pack (four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs) is available for Saturday night. The Stars will begin a five-game road trip starting on Tuesday, February 16th in Hamilton. All games can be heard on the Stars flagship station ESPNAustin 104.9 FM "The Horn" or ESPNAustin 1530-AM.
