
Grebeshkov Named To Russia's Preliminary Olympic Roster

MANCHESTER, NH - The Russian Ice Hockey Federation has included Manchester Monarchs defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and Los Angeles Kings left wing Alexander Frolov and right wing Valeri Bure on its preliminary Olympic roster, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.
Grebeshkov, selected by the Kings in the first-round (18th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, last represented his home country at the 2003 World Junior Championships (Gold Medal; 6 GP, 0-2=2; led the tournament with a plus-11 rating). The 22-year-old native of Yaroslavl also skated with the Russians at the 2002 World Junior Championships (Gold Medal; 7 GP, 1-2=3) and at the 2001 World Junior Championships (7 GP, 2-1=3). The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Grebeshkov has yet to appear in a Kings game this season. He led the AHL with 44 assists and tied for fourth among league blueliners with 49 overall points (5-44=49) while skating with the Monarchs during the 2004-05 season.
Frolov, selected by the Kings in the first-round (20th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, last skated with the Russian Ice Hockey Team at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey (4 GP, 0-2=2). The 23-year-old native of Moscow also skated with the Russians at the 2003 World Championships (7 GP, 3-2=5; co-led team in points). The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Frolov led the Kings in goals with 24 and finished second on the team in overall scoring with 48 points (24-24=48) during the 2003-04 season. He has two points (1-1=2) in four games with the Kings this season.
Bure, signed by the Kings as a free agent on August 12, 2005, last skated with the Russians at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games (Bronze Medal; 6 GP, 1-0=1). The 31-year-old native of Moscow also skated for his native Russia at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games (Silver Medal; 1-0=1). The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Bure's International resume also includes appearances at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey (1 GP, 0-0=0) and the 1994 World Championships (6 GP, 3-0=3). Bure, currently on the Kings injured reserve list with a back injury, collected 22 goals and 52 points (22-30=52) while appearing in 68 games with the Florida Panthers (55 GP, 20-25=45) and the Dallas Stars (13 GP, 2-5=7) during the 2003-04 season.
The 2006 Olympic Winter Games are scheduled for February 10-26 in Torino, Italy.
The Monarchs home opener is set for Saturday, October 15, at 7:35 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Single seats in the Gold level and 400 seats in the Silver level remain for Saturday's game against the Falcons.
