Omaha, NE - The Manitoba Moose rode the hot goaltending of Wade Flaherty to a 2-1 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Wednesday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The loss kept the Knights winless in their first two home games while the Moose got their first win of the season.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights grabbed the early lead with a five-on-three powerplay. Craig MacDonald set up Mark Giordano for a shot that broke off Flaherty and fluttered just over the goal line for his first goal of the season.

The Moose tied the game on their own powerplay. Nathan Smith whipped home a feed from Brandon Nolan just 2:03 after the Knights' goal to knot the game at one.

Later in the period with the Knights on the powerplay, the Moose cleared the puck in on goalie Curtis McElhinney. He tried to pass the puck up ice, but rookie Rick Rypien stole the puck and threw home a shorthanded goal at 8:29 to make it 2-1 Moose.

The Knights could not get the equalizer in spite of getting a powerplay in the final two minutes and pulling McElhinney for the extra attacker. Flaherty finished with 26 saves to preserve the 2-1 win. The Moose have played in three straight one-goal games to start the season.

The Knights return to action on Saturday night when they host the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
