Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 3/18/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas were officially eliminated from the 2008 CHL postseason on Tuesday night, losing in a shootout to the Odessa Jackalopes by a final score of 5-4. The Gorillas suffered their tenth overtime loss this season, giving them 52 points on the year with just three games remaining. Austin Sutter scored two goals in the loss, and Dan Bauer was in net making 37 saves on 41 shots faced. The Gorillas would get a late goal in the game from Matt Miller that tied the contest at 4-4, and giving the Gorillas one last chance to keep their playoff hopes alive. It was not to be however, as the Jackalopes final two shooters in the shootout would score, sealing the victory and ending the Gorillas streak of five consecutive postseason appearances.

The Gorillas out-shot Odessa on the night by a final margin of 49-41, while going 0-9 on the power-play and limiting Odessa to 1-10 on the man advantage. Odessa goaltender Alexandre Vincent got his eighth win of the year against Amarillo, making 45 saves in the winning effort and stopping four of five shooters in the shootout.

Amarillo has three regular season games remaining, all this week as they take on Austin on Thursday night, and New Mexico on Friday and Saturday night. Thursday and Friday are both home games, set to start at 7:05 PM CST and Saturday night is in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with a start time of 8:05 PM CST.
