Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers scored four unanswered goals to erase an early 2-0 deficit and defeat the Mudbugs 4-3 on Tuesday night at the Tulsa Convention Center. David Beauregard's four point night paced the Oilers, who won their third straight one goal game and first this year against Bossier-Shreveport. The loss puts the Bugs at just 3-5-2 in their last 10 games.
Ken Carroll played well for the Mudbugs in defeat, stopping three third-period breakaways to give his team a chance down the stretch. Carroll stopped 26 shots Tuesday, but ended up losing his fifth straight start.
The Mudbugs started the game on fire, scoring twice in the first eight minutes of the game to take the 2-0 lead. Elias Godoy picked up the rebound of a Jake Ortmeyer slapshot and put in his 20th goal of the season past Jeff Van Nynatten with one second remaining in a powerplay for the game's first goal. Just over two minutes later, the Bugs converted on beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play to go up by a pair. Dale Lupul at the right point hit Chris Brassard in the left circle, who sent a pass across the slot to Jason "Soupy" Campbell . Soupy finished off his sixth of the year to make it 2-0 Mudbugs at 7:34. Everything was going well until Tulsa managed to score the next four goals. David Beauregard was open in the slot when he got a wrister past Carroll to get the Oilers on the board. Lucas Burnett then slipped in on a breakaway and backhanded the puck past a sprawled-out Carroll off a feed from Beauregard to tie the game at two after the first.
Tulsa picked up in the where it left off less than a minute into the second when Paul Kelly scored on the powerplay to put the Oilers on top 3-2. Jeff Christian was left open in the slot and scored at 5:01 to make it a two-goal game for the Oilers. The second period would end with Tulsa on top 4-2.
The third period started with the Mudbugs getting back into it on Joe Ori's shorthanded goal. Just 1:04 into the final period, Daniel Pegoraro created the turnover and Ori raced in on Van Nynatten before going to his backhand and scoring his 26th of the year to cut the Oiler lead to one. Bossier-Shreveport never could get the equalizer though, even with Carroll holding down the back end to keep it a one-goal game.
Both teams finished the contest with 30 shots on goal. The Mudbugs were 1 for 6 on the powerplay while the Oilers finished 1 for 5.
With their regular season road schedule now complete, the Mudbugs will head home for their final two regular season games. Friday night the Bugs play their final divisional game of the regular season with the last of 11 meetings against the Texas Brahmas, who look to be playoff bound in the North. Then the regular season finale will come up on Saturday at CenturyTel Center when Rocky Mountain visits Bossier City in a game that could prove to make or break the Rage's playoff hopes. Tickets for both 7:05 games are on sale now and can be purchase through Ticketmaster for individual tickets (318-741-9700) or the Mudbugs office for group seats at 318-752-BUGS.
