DeCaro Named To 2nd Straight All-CHL Team
March 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League today announced that for the second consecutive year, Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro has been voted onto the six-member All-CHL team for 2007-2008. DeCaro, who is also a finalist for league MVP and Most Outstanding Goaltender awards, won that honor last year and was voted onto both the All-CHL and CHL All-Rookie teams.
The second-year Mudbugs netminder is joined on this year's All-CHL team by Laredo Bucks forward Jeff Bes, Rocky Mountain Rage forward Brent Cullaton, Arizona Sundogs forward Alex Leavitt, New Mexico Scorpions defenseman Vladimir Hartinger and Colorado Eagles defenseman Aaron Schneekloth. The All-CHL Team was voted upon by the league's 17 Head Coaches.
DeCaro owns a gleaming record of 25-6-3 and leads the CHL in nearly every statistical category for goaltenders this season. The University of Alaska-Anchorage product leads the league in wins (25-tied with Texas ' David Cacciola), goals-against average (1.67), saves percentage (.940), and shutouts (11). DeCaro has broken CHL records for shutouts in a season and consecutive shutout streak and both his goals-against and save percentage are on pace to set new league marks.
The 6'3", 208 lb. Marysville, Washington native has twice been named Sher-Wood CHL goaltender of the Month (November and February) and earned Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week award two times as well (Nov. 19-25th and Jan. 21-27th) during the 07-08 season.
All three forwards on the All-CHL team are finalists for the CHL Most Valuable Player award (to be announced on Monday, March 24th). Leavitt is closing in on winning the Joe Burton award (CHL regular season scoring champion). He currently leads the league with 115 points and 80 assists. Bes is second in scoring with 102 points (44-58=102) and Cullaton is fourth with 92 points (21-71=92).
Both defensemen on the team are finalists for the CHL Outstanding Defensemen award with Hartinger leading all blue liners with 58 points (19-39=58) and Schneekloth ranking second with 56 points and first with 21 goals.
The 2007-08 CHL All-Rookie Team was also announced today, but Rookie of the Year finalist Tyrel Lucas of the Mudbugs was not selected. The CHL Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year honors will both be announced tomorrow. The CHL Man of the Year and Rick Kozuback awards will be released on Thursday, followed by Friday's unveiling of the CHL's Defenseman of the Year and Most Outstanding Goaltender.
