Rage's Cullaton Named To All-CHL Team
March 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that Rocky Mountain Rage captain and player/assistant coach Brent Cullaton has been named to the 2007-08 All-CHL Team.
Cullaton, who is also a finalist for the CHL's MVP Award, has set new career highs for assists and points this year and enters Rocky Mountain's final three games of the regular season as the league's fourth-leading scorer with 92 points (21g-71a). His presence in the line-up and off the ice is a major reason why the Rage currently have 18 more wins than in their inaugural season a year ago.
Although the 12th-year pro is a three-time CHL All-Star and has twice led the Laredo Bucks to the President's Cup title (2004 and 2006), this is the first All-CHL accolade for Cullaton as he spent large portions of his three seasons with the Bucks also playing in the American Hockey League.
"What more needs to be said about Brent Cullaton," remarked Rage head coach Tracy Egeland. "He's the heart and soul of our team, and not only is he as talented as they come at this level, he's also helped instill a winning attitude with our club from the day he arrived last summer."
The league's 17 head coaches selected the six-member All-CHL Team, and joining the Rocky Mountain captain at forward are Laredo's Jeff Bes and Arizona's Alex Leavitt. The defensemen are Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth and New Mexico's Vladimir Hartinger, while Bossier-Shreveport's John DeCaro is the All-CHL netminder.
Cullaton's attention is now squarely focused on helping the Rage qualify for the President's Cup Playoffs. To do so, the team will have to find success on the road beginning tomorrow at Arizona, followed by tilts at Tulsa on Friday and Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday. Rocky Mountain currently stands sixth in the Northern Conference, one point behind Mississippi for the conference's fifth and final playoff spot.
