Nelson Gonzalez made his second start of the season Thursday for the Isotopes (31-29), throwing 5.0 scoreless innings to guide the team to a 3-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs (23-35) at Principal Park. Albuquerque won two of three games in Des Moines to claim the series.

Gonzalez retired 14 of the 17 batters he faced on the evening, limiting the Cubs to three hits and no walks. The right-hander also struck out a season-high five batters.

Neither team could cross the plate for the first six innings of the contest before the Isotopes struck for three runs in the seventh to take the lead. Scott McGough broke the scoreless tie when he drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Raimel Tapia followed McGough with a two-run single up the middle.

On the mound, McGough threw 2.0 shutout innings of relief to earn the win and improve his season record to 4-0. Jerry Vasto allowed two singles in the ninth inning, but was able to close out the victory for his third save.

Daniel Castro went 1-for-3 at the plate with a single in the third inning to extend his hitting streak with the Isotopes to 24 games. Castro's hitting streak is tied for the second-longest in team history with Dustin Garneau, who hit safely in 24 straight from Aug. 20, 2016-June 19, 2017.

The Isotopes continue their seven-game trek through the Midwest on Friday as they begin a four-game set against the Omaha Storm Chasers. Lefty Sam Howard will head to the hill in search of his fourth win of the season with Albuquerque. The game will get underway from Werner Park at 6:05 p.m. ?
