Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Round Rock Express exploded for 16 runs on 20 hits to hand the Bees their worst loss of the season 16-4 on Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on the first Triple-A RBI for Taylor Ward as he drove in David Fletcher on a RBI single. Ward was a bright spot for the Bees offense as he bookended the night with his first home run for the Bees with a towering shot to left center in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ward drove in all four runs for the Bees on a two-hit night. Matt Thaiss had a pair of doubles and Nolan Fontana and Jose Miguel Fernandez also had two hit nights, but the Bees offense finished just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

David Hurlbut (2-4) got the win for the Express allowing two runs over five and one-third innings. Jose Suarez (0-2) took the loss as the Bees starter giving up four runs in four and one-third innings. Salt Lake relievers took it on the chin as Ryan Clark, Ralston Cash, Taylor Cole and Jake Jewell each gave up at least two runs against the potent Round Rock offense. Salt Lake is now 1-10 in their last 11 games against Round Rock and have not beaten the Express in Salt Lake since August 2014, a streak of seven straight.

The Salt Lake homestand continues with the series finale against Round Rock at 12:05 p.m. Lunch specials are available including $10 for a hot dog and a ticket for the Thursday matinee.
