Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: Jake Buchanan will make his 11th start of the season tonight and first against Nashville since August 3, 2017. Buchanan enters tonight's contest 3-5 with a 4.60 ERA in 58.2 innings. The right-hander looks to shake a two-game skid tonight with help from Socrates Brito and Kevin Cron. Brito hit his 41st career MiLB home run last night in a 2-for-4 performance. Cron is batting .341 (15-for-44) in his last 10 games with 16 RBI and 6 runs scored.
Last Game: Reno dropped game two of the three-game series in Nashville by a score of 5-1. Bradin Hagens took the loss, bringing his 2018 record to 2-3. Hagens got the start for the Aces, finishing with 5.2 IP, 10 hits and four earned runs. Offensively, Reno finished with five total hits and Socrates Brito was the only Aces player tonight to record a multi-hit game. Brito's home run in the top of the first inning was the 45th homer of his professional career and 41st in the Minor Leagues.
On this Day in Baseball History: The A's select future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson in the first round (2nd pick) of the amateur draft on this day in 1966. The Mets, with the first overall pick, choose Steve Chilcott, a high school catcher who will never play a day in the major league. Jackson appeared in 14 All-Star Games, won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1973, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.
Over in Five: The Reno Aces are 3-27 when trailing after five innings this season. Las Vegas is the only team in the Pacific Coast League with more losses in this situation (4-29). Last season, Reno went 17-44 when trailing after five innings and had the most wins in the Pacific Coast League in that situation.
Making Big Moves: The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired OF Jon Jay from the Kansas City Royals for LHP Gabe Speier and RHP Elvis Luciano yesterday. To make room on the D-backs' 40-man roster, the club designated INF/OF Kristopher Negrón for assignment. Negrón, 32, appeared in 2 games with Arizona in 2018, going 1-for-3 (.333) with an RBI. His contract was selected from Triple-A Reno on June 4. With the Aces, Negron hit .259 (44-for-170) with 13 extra-base hits.
The Return to Nashville: Aces southpaw Jared Miller tossed a scoreless inning on Wednesday night, adding two strikeouts. Miller was a member of the National Champion 2014 Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. As a junior, Miller went 7-2 with a 4.35 ERA and appeared in 17 games. Following his championship season, Miller was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks 330th overall.
