Express Bats Explode in 16-4 Win over Bees

Round Rock Express News Release
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Round Rock Express (26-33) topped last night's 10-run outburst with a 16-4 dismantling of the Salt Lake Bees (35-25) on Wednesday evening at Smith's Ballpark. Round Rock posted its highest scoring output and hit total of the season.
Express starter LHP David Hurlbut (2-4, 5.51) managed to hold the Bees to two runs over the game's first 5.1 frames to pick up the win. Hurlbut was knocked around for nine hits but employed a "bend but don't break," mentality as he relied on his ability to induce weak contact to bail himself out of tough situations. On the losing end, Bees LHP Jose Suarez (0-2, 4.85) was chased off the mound by the red-hot Round Rock offense after just 4.1 innings, getting roughed up for four runs on eight hits.
Tonight's contest saw the Express offense best their production from the previous night with the lineup reaching base a total of 25 times on 20 hits, four walks and a hit batter. Each Round Rock hitter found themselves on the basepaths at least once, with five batters reaching safely three or more times on the night.
The sequel to the "Hunter Cole Show" rivaled the original, as the 25-year-old right fielder followed up his two-homer Express debut on Tuesday by launching another longball in the midst of a three-hit outing in tonight's ballgame.
Not to be outdone by their new teammate, C Juan Centeno and DH Willie Calhoun pitched in with a pair of two-run homers themselves, combining for five total RBI.
By the time Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner put the blowout to bed with a strikeout of Salt Lake RF Rymer Liriano in the ninth, Calhoun, LF Ryan Rua, and 2B Christian Lopes had already driven in at least three runs each with Rua leading the way with four.
Through two games at Smith's Ballpark, Round Rock's hitters have lit up the Bees pitching staff to the tune of 37 base hits and 26 runs.
The Express will look to keep the good times rolling when they take the field against Salt Lake for the final game of the series Thursday night with Round Rock starter LHP Yohander Méndez (0-5, 5.20) scheduled to face RHP Jamie Barria (0-0, 3.60) of the Bees. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
