Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers starting pitcher Jonathan Dziedzic fired a quality start and center fielder Rosell Herrera clubbed a game-tying home run, however El Paso third baseman Luis Urias smashed a go-ahead solo shot in the eighth to push the Chihuahuas to a 3-2 victory over Omaha on Wednesday evening at Werner Park.
El Paso also took the early lead with a longball courtesy of DH Allen Craig 's solo blast in the second. After another single tally in the fourth, Herrera countered with his two-run smash over the McDonald's Berm in right field, his first longball since joining Omaha on Tuesday, to even the contest at 2-2. Urias ultimately broke the draw with his eighth-inning big fly, his sixth of 2018, to put the Chihuahuas ahead for good.
Herrera (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) and RF Billy Burns (2-3) each recorded two knocks in the defeat for Omaha, while El Paso LF Shane Peterson (3-4) was the only batter from his side to tally a multi-hit effort. Herrera has collected four hits in his first eight plate appearances since joining the Storm Chasers, adding one double, one triple and one walk in addition to his roundtripper on Wednesday.
Neither Dziedzic (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K), lowered his earned-run average to 3.36 after entering play ranked seventh in the Pacific Coast League in that category, nor Chihuahuas starter Seth Simmons (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) factored in the final decisions. Storm Chasers southpaw Eric Stout (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 K) suffered the defeat, while Trey Wingenter (1.0 IP, H) earned the win and Robert Stock (1.0 IP, H, BB, K) notched his second save.
Omaha and El Paso are set to face off in the rubber match of their three-game set on Thursday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. The Storm Chasers are expected to send RHP Heath Fillmyer (3-4, 5.58) to the hill, while the Chihuahuas are anticipated to give the nod to RHP Walker Lockett (2-5, 5.31).
Tickets are still available for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home dates in 2018, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
